Less-than two weeks after snapping a 30 game Heart O’ Lakes Conference losing streak, the Frazee Hornets were at it again last week as they picked up their second conference win of the season. The Hornets defeated the Hawley Nuggets by a score of 66-37 to improve to 2-7 in the conference.

The win came on the heels of a tough 70-43 loss to Perham on Tuesday night, which was also in conference action.

On Saturday the Hornets improved to 7-11 overall as they defeated the New York Mills Eagles on the road by a score of 56-49.

The Hornets and Eagles were tied at 24-24 at halftime, but Hailey Selly and Riyan Eckert each hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second half to lift Frazee over NY Mills for the non-conference win. Eckert hit four 3-pointers in the win and the Hornets held the Eagles to just eight field goals in the final 18 minutes of action.

The Hornets were led offensively by Jayden Sonnenberg who had 22 points, including 12 points in the first half alone. Selly finished with 13 points and was a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line, Eckert chipped in with 12 points, while Brynn Larson scored 6 points, Kaidence Mayfield scored 2 points and Ashley Malikowski rounded out the scoring with 1 point.

This week the Hornets will travel to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Thursday night in their lone game of the week. Next week the Hornets will travel to Breckenridge on Monday night, before hosting Ada-Borup West in their final regular season home game of the season.
