The Becker County Sheriff’s Office announced that a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train near Detroit Lakes on Monday, Jan. 23.

Emergency dispatchers received a report of an eastbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe hitting and killing a pedestrian west of 230th Avenue, near Forest Hills Golf and RV Resort west of Detroit Lakes. 

The individual was later identified as Ryan Goroski, 41, of Audubon.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Officer assisted the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, along with Essentia-St. Mary’s EMS, the Detroit Lakes Fire Department.

Man dies in Becker County snowmobile crash

A Fargo man was killed in a snowmobile rollover crash south of Cotton Lake on Sunday, Jan. 22.

Becker County emergency dispatchers received a report at At 5:30 p.m., that a snowmobile had rolled over near the intersection of County Road 32 and South Cotton Lake Road.

According to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office news release, Scott Darrel Fossum, 34, of Fargo, N.D., was not breathing.

Fossum was not wearing a helmet during the crash and information at the scene indicated Fossum lost control of his snowmobile on South Cotton Lake Road rolling over into the ditch, according to the release.

Fossum was transported to Essentia Health St. Mary’s in Detroit Lakes where he was pronounced dead. The incident remains under investigation.
