The Frazee Hornets snapped a five game losing streak and picked up their first conference win of the season on Friday night. After inclement weather forced the postponement of their game on Tuesday night, the Hornets hit the road on Friday to take on the Breckenridge Cowboys.

Frazee picked up their first Heart O’ Lakes Conference win in over a year by a score of 55-51. Ironically, the last conference win for Frazee also came against Breckenridge as the Hornets defeated the Cowboys by a score of 62-61 in overtime on Jan. 13, 2022.

On Friday, the Hornets took an early lead and led for nearly the entire way. Breckenridge was able to take a short lead midway through the first half, but Frazee picked up the tempo and quickly took back the lead.

The Hornets led by a score of 27-21 at halftime and were able to keep the Cowboys at bay by shooting 40 percent from the field and making the most of a 14-4 advantage in the paint.

Frazee was led offensively by Kale Ovsak with 17 points and 5 rebounds. He shot an impressive 6-10 from the field.

“Kale had a huge game for us.  I don’t know what it is about Breckenridge, but he plays well when we go down there,” said head coach Ryan Vigen.

Carter Sonnenberg also reached double figures with 11 points, while Adam Vigen went 4-8 from the field for 10 points and Asher Blaine chipped in with 9 points of his own.

This week the Hornets were scheduled to play Park Christian on Monday night, before ending their regular season with four straight games at home. Frazee will open that home stand on Thursday night when they host Menahga, before hosting Ashby on Friday night in a pair of non-conference games.

Next week the Hornets will host Wadena-Deer Creek on Feb. 28, before rounding out their conference and regular season schedule on March 2 against Barnesville.
