Ashley Hammon recently opened Happy Balance Accounting in Vergas. She is located in the Jack Chivers lounge on Main Street in Vergas, and to all who mention this article will receive $50 off their tax prep fee in the month of March. Hammon offers tax prep for individuals and businesses. She also does bookkeeping and payroll as well as many other facets of the job.
This squirrel was not too impressed with having to dig through the snow to get to the bird feed. In under 7 days, three snowfalls occurred leaving about 13 inches of snow in the Frazee area.
Frazee tied with Sibley East to lead the field in the number of individuals qualifying for state with 10 apiece. The week prior, the entire team won a berth at state. According to the Minnesota State High School League, No. 2-ranked Frazee is one of the most storied programs in Class A. The Hornets are in the state tournament for the 25th time since 1987.

The Ratz dairy farm has completed a drastic change, which was made possible by planning, technology, and hard work. The family-owned and operated farm located between Frazee and Vergas will ring its second century next year with about 500 cows. Of those animals, about 420 will be cows milked three times daily. That’s an increase that would be beyond the comprehension of Adam Ratz, who in 1899 was milking six cows on his 80-acre Hobart Township settlement.
Charges are pending on a fire, which totaled a home on East Balsam Avenue in Frazee Friday morning. The state fire marshal and the Frazee Police Department are working together on the case. Fire Chief Paul Jacobs said there appeared to be at least three different ignition source areas in the home.
Frazee’s Economic Development Authority hopes to get a kick start for its budget with the sale of the former United Community Bank building. Friday, EDA officials will meet at 4 p.m. in the basement of city hall to open the offers it has received on the former bank building. The building was donated to the EDA, which is operated by the City of Frazee.

Suspense filled the auditorium on the afternoon of February 8, as the National Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony. Three seniors and 12 juniors were chosen. The newly inducted members are Cindy Byer, Julie Courtney, Jody Schermerhorn, Deb Salmonson, Kathi Arenson, Daniel Simonson, Randy Schafer, Al Riemann, Marty Breitzman, Vicki Kansas, Brenda Adams, Joni Kelly, Pegy Weeding, Lorie Ziegler, and Sue With. These students were picked by a team of teachers on a basis of four points. These points were leadership, service, character, and scholarship.
Joni Kelly, 17, of the Burlington Cubs 4-H Club, competed in the District 4-H Radio Speaking Contest at Fergus Falls on Saturday, Feb. 24. Joni, the daughter of Mrs. Joyce Kelly of Frazee, won second place in the District competition. Joni will not compete in state competition, but will win a trip to the State Contest, March 11-13, to participate in the educational program. This is the second year Joni has won second at the District, says Mrs. Eni Just, Extension Home Economist.
