Inclement weather played tricks on the Frazee Hornets and their schedule last week. After inclement weather canceled Frazee’s games on Monday and Thursday night, the Hornets were able to get in a pair of games at the end of the week.

Frazee defeated Ashby by a score of 63-52 on Friday night, before hitting the road and falling to Park Christian by a score of 62-50 on Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets will wrap up a busy final week of action with three home games.

On Tuesday the Frazee will host Wadena-Deer Creek in non-conference action, before hosting Barnesville in their final Heart O’ Lakes Conference game of the season on Thursday. Frazee’s regular season will come to an end on Friday night when they host Menahga.

The Hornets are currently 6-16 on the season and 1-10 in the conference.

Frazee will kick off the Section 8AA tournament on March 9 at the high seed.

Friday

Frazee shot better than 53 percent from the field and held a 21-8 advantage in transition points as they came away with a 63-52 win over Ashby on Friday night.

The Hornets led for virtually the entire game, but Ashby was able to stay in the contest by forcing 28 Frazee turnovers.

Head coach Ryan Vigen said there were too many turnovers for his liking, but Frazee put together a good team effort in the win.

On the other side of the court, the Hornets forced 25 Ashby turnovers as well.

Four Hornets reached double figures in scoring with Asher Blaine leading the way with 15 points on just 6-9 shooting from the field, while Alex Helmers scored 12 points. Carter Sonnenberg and Zach Longfors both reached double figures with 11 points of their own.

Sonnenberg led the team with 8 rebounds, while Blaine led the team with 3 assists.

Saturday

Frazee shot just under 30 percent, but did a much better job of hanging onto the ball in their second game in just 24 hours on Saturday. Unfortunately, the shots just didn’t go down for Frazee as they lost a back-and-forth game against Park Christian by a score of 62-50.

“We played pretty well today.  We just didn’t make shots,” said head coach Ryan Vigen.

After a first half full of lead changes, the Falcons took a 31-29 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Hornets stayed within striking distance for much of the half, but were unable to make one late charge to come away with the win.

As a team, the Hornets forced 21 Park Christian turnovers and held a 28-24 point advantage in the paint.

A total of seven Hornets reached the scoring column with Kale Ovsak and Alex Helmers leading the way with 10 points. Carter Sonnenberg chipped in with 8 points and 8 rebounds, while Asher Blaine scored 9 points and Adam Vigen scored 8 points and finished with 4 assists.
