The opportunity to win a trip to Cancun, a Timberwolves game, a shrimp boil for up to 24 guests, a meat smoker, casino packages and much more will be Saturday, March 24 at the Frazee Event Center. The 11th annual Frazee Fire Department Relief Association is hosting a silent auction starting at 5 p.m. and the live auction begins at 8 p.m. There will also be gun and purse raffles throughout the night.
The Frazee robotics team made school history by sweeping the regional events with two championship titles. Frazee won the 2018 Great Northern Regional Title after competing in Grand Forks with 46 other teams to kick off March. They continued the impressive season by winning the championship title at the Lake Superior regional March 8-10. The Duluth event brought in 63 teams spanning from Minnesota to Wisconsin.
A spaghetti dinner to benefit veterans will be held Sunday, March 18 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Vergas Event Center. All donations and proceeds will go to the Veterans Relief Fund, which supports activities that serve multiple veteran organizations in the local community. A freewill offering will be taken. The event is hosted by Heart of Lakes VFW Post 7702 & AmVets 612 and supported by the Vergas Lions Club.

The Minges, Chuck, Blake, Blossom and Brenda, opened the new Cedar Inn Cafe Friday in the former Palace Cafe location. Diners will find the cafe lined with natural wood logs and tables wood burned with local scenes and businesses. The cafe will be open Monday through Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Many new items were added to the traditional favorites on the menu. Work has begun on the remodeling of the adjacent area for the pizzeria.
Frazee firemen worked to remove 40 gallons of fuel, which was leaking out of a motor home after a one-vehicle rollover Wednesday, March 4, near Frazee on Highway 10. Driver Mildred Gruber of Genola, crossed both westbound lanes, flipped the vehicle onto its side and eventually faced east in the median. Gruber was transported to St. Mary’s Regional Health Center, DL, where she was hospitalized overnight and then discharged.
Speeding tickets may flow in Frazee after a five to six year absence. At Thursday’s Frazee City Council meeting, Police Chief Kelly Shannon said the department has purchased a new radar gun and will be keeping a look out for speeders in the city. The city purchased the gun with the new grant money it received from participating in the Safe and Sober program.
One corner of main street will soon be full, with two more to go. The Frazee Economic Development Authority approved Kevin Ketter’s $20,000 offer for the former United Community Bank building. At the special meeting Thursday night, the EDA wished Ketter luck in his venture and noted it would assist Ketter in any possible way to make the corner building a viable business.

Becker County voters passed a referendum on Tuesday for construction of a new $585,000 nursing home to replace the 55-year-old Sunnyside Rest Home near Lake Park. In a light turnout of voters the measure was approved by a vote of 2,753 to 2,122 in unofficial returns. The proposed 63-bed facility will be built on the site of the present home, implying 23 full-time and six part-time employees.
The Detroit Lakes Jaycees will bring All-Star Wrestling to their city on Wednesday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Detroit Lakes Senior High Gymnasium. The main event will feature Super Star Billy Graham vs. Don Muraco, while Wahoo McDaniels and Ivan Koloff will tangle in the semi-main match. Two other matches are also on the program.
