Fire destroyed a building in rural Vergas on Tuesday, March 7, according to an Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Including the building, $15,000 worth of tools were also damaged in the structure fire.

No injuries were reported.

At approximately 9:31 p.m. on Tuesday, dispatch received a 911 call from the property owner of a fire in a shop 20-feet from the residence at 49200 Highway 59.

First responders observed visible flames and smoke coming from the shop upon arrival.

According to the press release, the fire appeared to have started accidentally in a garbage can in the shop and is believed to be non-suspicious in nature.

The Vergas and Pelican Rapids fire departments responded to the call, along with the Pelican Rapids Police Department and Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.
