After enduring unexplained vision problems, migraines and seizures, Todd Holmer got answers he didn’t want to hear—at 49 years of age he had no choice but to start a new life. The rural Frazee resident was in a severe car accident in November 2005 when his sedan was hit by a pickup and then a semi. After the accident the doctors saw a spot of blood on his brain, but it clotted and then remain unchanged, so they focused on his more apparent injuries. While his many broken bones healed, Todd’s brain injury did not. In fact, it went undiagnosed for about a decade. Todd recently graduated from cognitive therapy, and while his next appointment isn’t for six months, he plans to stop in for tune-ups to ensure he continues to progress.
The Toad Lake Township board is contemplating its option in dealing with a feral cat colony living next to its town hall. Toad Lake resident Chris Pueringer said the cat colony became a concern when the owner of the farm that is located next to the town hall became ill. “When that happened the cats came over to the dumpsters to eat,” she said. Pueringer said the farm has been sold. The new owners work the land and are only on-site seasonally, which makes the barn a prime breeding ground for a cat colony.

Truck firm founder Vernon Daggett dies—Philanthropist, civic leader leads legacy of projects, friends. To say Vernon Daggett will be missed by many is an understatement. When Vernon, who was the founder of Daggett Truck Line, a civic leader and philanthropist, died Sunday at the age of 93, he left behind projects and friends almost too numerous to mention. A lifelong resident of Frazee, he may be remembered best as founder of the company which bears his family’s name. In 1930, Vernon began building a reputation in the trucking industry with Daggett Truck Line.
Changes made in the Title I program should result in less children in the special education classes due tearily intervention. During Monday’s Frazee-Vergas School Board meeting, Elementary Principal Dave Stoltenburg outlined the new plan for the 1998-99 school year. A new reading recovery program will be implemented, which gives first grade students who are failing in reading a chance for intense reading and writing instruction.

Jim Wacker set a new Frazee school record in the shot put while placing fourth in that event in the Drago Indoor meet held last Wednesday at Moorhead State College. Wacker tossed the shot put 48’ 2.25”, eclipsing the former school mark of 44’6” set by Paul Katzenberger in 1971.
Last year, the proceeds from the Frazee Firemen’s Ball were used to purchase this truck and 1,700 gallon tank to haul water to rural fires and areas where there is a poor water supply. This year the firemen want to pay for the rebuilding of the tank, the body work and painting, which has already been completed; also to better equip the fire department. Much of this work has been done by our volunteer firemen in their spare time. The firemen want to thank all who came to their dance last year and hope to see you again Friday night, April 27. Bring all your friends along to the Dance of the Year!
The Frazee Fire Dept. was called to extinguish two grass fires this past week. The first call was at 3:05 p.m. Thursday along the BN railroad tracks about 7 miles west of Frazee, the other at 3:45 p.m. Saturday on the south side of Highway 87 near the east city limits of Frazee.
