Easy-access post office boxes were recently installed in Frazee and keys can be picked up at the service counter. Trim work and other details need to be finished, after which the lobby will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Height of Land Township recently built a new community center, which is located across from its old town hall. The lot also includes a park area and is located along State Highway 34.

The Frazee Parks and Recreation Committee revived an idea of creating a walking path near River Park. Frazee Utilities Superintendent Larry Stephenson reported in recent years the city has mowed a stretch that follow the river, and the goal would be North Lake Street. Discussion was had about land ownership, and the city Mayor said he believed they had enough property to make the walk a reality. He explained when there was a dam, the river level was higher. After the dam was removed, the river level dropped. He believes the city has ownership of the land between where the previous high water mark was and where it currently is located.

For the first time, the popular Lakes Area Spring Consignment Auction was postponed and rescheduled to Saturday, May 5 at 9 a.m. due to the continuous snow accumulation and lingering winter temperatures. Austin Bachmann, of Bachmann Auctioneers, said the company decided to reschedule the event to accommodate both the buyers and the sellers. “There were people who had issues getting things out of a frozen field,” Bachmann said. “We moved it and I think it helped tremendously.”

The condemnation procedure will begin on a rental home on South Lake Street. The Frazee City Council voted at a special meeting last Thursday to condemn a rental home owned by LeRoy Fedt located at 402 South Lake Street. The vote was unanimous with council person Pat Johnson absent. The condemnation procedure was not outlined in detail at the meeting, but was vaguely described as including a public hearing, a petition to the court and possibly allowing 30 days for the owner to bring the building up to outlined standards. The property can not be rented out during the condemnation procedure.

The City of Frazee is seeking the demolition of the middle portion of the elevator on West Main Avenue, as it poses a threat due to falling debris. At a special city council meeting last Thursday, the council decided to send owner Kenny Carlson a letter requesting a response in 30 days to outline a demolition plan and date. The matter had been listed on the agenda under “condemnation of property,” but apparently a letter will be sent before more serious actions are taken.

Could that “Beep, beep,” sound mean road runners have migrated north? Actually, they have. Wayne and Deb Bergerud, Perham, will be opening Road Runner Antiques and Collectibles in perm. With a tentative opening date coordinating with the fishing season opener May 9, the Bergeruds will offer a wide range of collectible items in the site of Vergas’ former barber shop.

The Becker County Fair Board has purchased a set of aluminum bleachers which ill be used alongside the new 1/2 mile race track which will be ready for the 1973 Becker Co. Fair, which opens Tuesday, August 14 in Detroit Lakes. The new aluminum bleachers are completely of metal and aluminum construction. They will seat 1060 people comfortably. They measure 171 feet long; 17 feet high, and 22 feet wide. There are four aisles for easy access to and from all seats. There are also double railings around the outside to prevent someone from falling to the ground.

There will be adult roller skating at the 4-H Building in Perham on Wednesday, May 2, from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. All adults in the area are welcome.

Filing for election of three directors for the Frazee-Vergas School Board on May 15 closed Tuesday. Those filing for the board of education are the three incumbents, Alan Wothe, Clarence Ziegler, and Mrs. Hilma Kangas.
