Cheri Lee Mayberry, of Frazee, was sentenced in Becker County District Court for a felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime

A Detroit Lakes police officer responded to Walmart in Detroit Lakes on a shoplifting report on Feb. 5, 2022, according to court records. The officer was directed to a self-checkout by an employee where Mayberry, 57, was suspected of swapping barcodes.

The total price on the checkout screen was noticeably less than the items in the bagging area and the officer noticed Mayberry attempting to pay $34.42 for what was $448.24 worth of merchandise.

Upon a search, the officer found a pouch containing 0.79 grams of methamphetamine in her purse, along with a short straw, and a hypodermic needle.

District Judge Michelle Lawson issued a stay of adjudication on Wednesday, April 12, and placed Mayberry on supervised probation for five years. A successful completion of probation will result in a case dismissal.

Mayberry was ordered to serve 20 days in the Becker County Jail, with credit for six days served, along with a $500 fine and court fees of $75. Work release privileges were authorized.
