Up to 8,000 New Life Farms turkeys died Thursday, May 3 in a barn fire about three miles northwest of Frazee. No other injuries were reported. The building was about 500 feet long and 40 feet wide and housed turkeys, all of which died in the fire. Frazee Fire Chief Albert Doll said the report came in at 7:55 a.m. and within minutes the department had three trucks on scene.
The Frazee Flames and the Vergas Loons announced the two baseball clubs are combining for the season. The team was renamed the Frazee-Vergas Loons. All games will be played at the Vergas ballpark, except the alumni game during Turkey Days.

Eighty-nine seniors are set to walk down the aisle at the 93rd annual commencement ceremonies at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Frazee High School gymnasium. Valedictorian Amanda Vizenor and salutatorian Dawn Oswald will be the keynote speakers of the event. Musical selections will be provided by the high school band, Hues of Harmony and choir seniors.
Frazee reading test scores rose significantly this year on the Minnesota Basic Standard Test which is required as part of the new graduation standards. During Monday’s Frazee School Board meeting, the test results were reviewed and compared with other schools. A student must obtain a 75 percent level to pass the state test, which is currently given in reading and math to eight graders.
A public hearing to review the option of removing or repairing the Main Avenue dam will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Frazee Fire Hall. Expected at the meeting are DNR’s dam specialist Craig Regalia, hydrologist Bob Merritt, fisheries expert Gary Huberty, city attorney Charlie Ramstad and engineer Marty Rye.

The Honor Graduates of the Frazee High School Class of 1973 have been announced. Mariellen Lindow has been. Named valedictorian, with a grade point average of 3.96. Christina Walseth is salutatorian, with an average of 3.92.
The American National Bank and Trust Co. of St. Paul and the Detroit State Bank of Detroit Lakes were the successful bidders at a net interest rate of 4.9701 per cent for $585,000 in Sunnyside Nursing Home general obligation bonds last Wednesday.
A barn on the Mrs. Leo Lockhart farm, 1.5 miles southeast of Frazee, was destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon, May 5. The barn was engulfed by flame when the Frazee firemen arrived about 2:30 p.m. Also lost in the fire were 100 bales of hay in the barn, and an older car and bus camper parked outside.
The village dog pound has two small black dogs to be claimed or adopted. One is part shepherd and collie pup with a chocker chain, the other is pekinese and terrier. If the dogs are not claimed they will be destroyed.
