A Frazee man passed away from burns suffered in a fire near Evergreen Wednesday, May 3.

A Frazee Firefighter advised the Becker County Sheriff’s dispatch of a swamp on fire at 13290 440th Avenue, near Evergreen Wednesday at approximately 5:43 p.m. 

The reporting firefighter also observed a male coming from the area of the fire with what was believed to be third degree burns. The firefighter advised dispatch of the burn victim and asked for fire departments and rescue services to respond to the scene.

Prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, dispatch was notified that the burn victim had been taken to the Perham Hospital by private vehicle. 

The victim, Alvin George Schwarzrock, 80, of Frazee, was treated at the Perham Hospital and later taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. 

The Sheriff’s Office was notified Thursday, May 4 that Schwarzrock had passed away.

The Frazee Fire Department, Wolf Lake Fire Department, MN DNR Forestry, Frazee Police Department, MN Fire Marshal’s Office, Essentia-St. Mary’s EMS, and LifeLink Air Ambulance assisted the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident remains under investigation.
