Riyan Eckert threw a no-hitter as the Frazee Hornets picked up their third win of the season on Monday night. The game kicked off a busy week for the Hornets who are now 3-12 on the season and are gearing up for their final week of the regular season.

This week the Hornets will host Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Tuesday night, before wrapping up their regular season on Thursday and Friday night in a pair of HOL Conference doubleheaders against Barnesville and Pelican Rapids.

Monday

Riyan Eckert threw a no-hitter as the Hornets defeated the Menahga Braves in non-conference action by a score of 13-2 on Monday night. Eckert walked just 3 hitters and gave up just 1 earned run, while striking out 5 hitters.

The Hornets blew the game open in the third inning when they scored 12 runs as 11 straight hitters reached base safely with one out, all of whom would later go on to score. Among the highlights of the inning was a 2-run and 1-run single off the bat of Ashley Malikowski as she finished the game 2-3 with 3 RBIs. Kate Vigen and Hailee Olson both finished with a pair of RBIs in the win, while Faith Hamm finished a perfect 3-3 at the plate.

Tuesday

Frazee dropped a pair of games to Park Rapids in non-conference action on Tuesday night.

In the opening game, the Hornets took an early 8-5 lead after a big top of the third inning brought 7 runners across the plate. Unfortunately, the Panthers rallied with a 4-run bottom of the fourth inning to come away with a 10-8 win. The Hornets had the go-ahead run at the plate in the top of the seventh inning with no outs but couldn’t get the runners across the plate.

Hope Hamm took the loss on the mound for the Hornets as she went 3 2/3 innings in her first varsity action on the mound.

Kate Vigen, Evie Seim and Ally Bessler all led the way offensively with 2 hits apiece.

In the second game, Park Rapids came away with a pair of 4-run innings to secure a 10-5 win over the Hornets.

Frazee scored a pair of runs in the first inning on a Faith Hamm RBI triple and an Ashley Malikowski RBI double. Malikowski finished with three doubles in the game and Hamm finished with a pair of triples to lead the way offensively. Both players also finished with a pair of RBIs.

Ellie Trieglaff took the loss on the mound as she gave up 10 runs and 12 hits, while walking a pair of hitters.

Thursday

Frazee fell to 3-12 overall with a pair of losses to Breckenridge on Thursday night.

The Hornets dropped the first game by a score of 9-2. The Hornets struck first in the game with an RBI single by Faith Hamm that brought Kate Vigen around to score. They added another run in the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough as Breckenridge scored 3 runs in both the first and sixth innings to come away with the win.

In the second game of the night, Breckenridge scored 4 runs in both the third and fifth innings to come away with a 10-6 win over the Hornets.

The big inning for Frazee was in the second inning when they went on a one out rally to bring 5 runs across the plate in the inning. Among the highlights was a fielder’s choice by Brea Paurus that brought 1 run across the plate, as well as a sacrifice fly by Riyan Eckert and an RBI single by Ashley Malikowski, who would also hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Hope Hamm took the loss on the mound as she pitched 4 innings in relief of Layla Post and gave up 5 runs and 7 hits, while striking out 1 hitter.
