Troy Diggins is the new funeral director at Furey Funeral Home. He is glad to offer the thoughtful, personal, empathetic support families need in times of grief. “I cover the details so the families and friends can grieve properly,” he said. “Everyone we serve is loved by someone, and we know they are in a rough spot, so we dod what we can to help them.”

Frazee High School took first at the Minnesota State High School League State Robotics Championship. Frazee’s team, KAOTIC (Keeping Ahead of Technology In Communities) Robotics competed in nine preliminary matches and finished 7-2 to rank No. 2.

Now is the time to help set goals, express needs and determine wants for the city of Frazee. Residents of the city and surrounding areas are encouraged to stop by the Frazee Event Center Wednesday, May 30 from 6-7:30 p.m. While enjoying a meal with hot dogs, beans, chips and lemonade, an efficient and informative presentation will be given about why the city is updating its comprehensive plan, and how people can get involved.

For over 100 years, Americans have been gathering to honor their fallen veterans. People in the surrounding area continue the yearly tradition. Memorial Day services are scheduled Monday morning in both Frazee and Vergas. The Vergas ceremony will include the dedication of the new veterans’ memorial at the Vergas cemetery.

With the recent opening of Pines Gifts and Collectibles in Vergas, shoppers have a new range of items from which to choose. From Mikes crystal, to coffees and locally made sweets, owner Jeana Nelson and her staff offer an enticing selection of gifts and collectibles. The Vergas main street store adds to the already wonderful shopping atmosphere of the town.

All was calm at the hearing Tuesday night to review Frazee’s options to either remove or repair the Main Avenue Dam. This was despite the fact one citizen had a sign stating “repair the dam,” while another made a display outside city hall seeking river cleanup as depicted by a trailer of debris and an information board regarding river history and other river cleanups in Minnesota. About 12 citizens, six DNR and legal representatives, four city council members and two city employees made up the small crowed who gathered in a fact-finding public meeting.

The Frazee Fire Dept. made two calls this past week. Thursday, May 17 the firemen were summoned at 9 p.m. to extinguish a grass fire in Erie Township. Sunday, about 8:15 a.m., the Frazee firemen were called to put out a fire on a Burlington-Northern flat car, loaded with lumber, two miles east of Frazee. Much of the lumber was destroyed and the flat care was also damaged. The fire was caused by an overheated brake.

The cantata “No Greater Love” will be presented by the Bethlehem Lutheran Senior Choir at their 8 o’clock service on Sunday morning in Frazee. The Cantata, written by John Peterson, will feature both tenor and soprano solos and will include a narration of the life and death of Jesus Christ.

Heart O’Lakes Post 7702 of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary will conduct memorial Day observance services at Frazee and Vergas on Monday, May 28. V.F.W. and Auxiliary members and their families are invited to share in a free breakfast at the Post Home Monday morning from 7 to 9 a.m. All veterans, whether a member of the local Post or not, are invited to march in the parade and participate in the services to honor their departed comrades.
