Frazee drops a pair to Barnesville

Heading into its final week of the regular season, the 8-9 Frazee Hornets are looking to bounce back from a pair of losses to Barnesville on Thursday night. The two losses comes on the heels of a big 12-5 win over Lake Park-Audubon on Monday night. 

This week the Hornets will host Otter Tail Central and Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal in a split doubleheader on Monday night, before traveling to Menahga on Thursday night for a non-conference game. 

Monday

Frazee snapped a 5-5 tie in the top of the seventh inning with a huge 7-spot to come away with a 12-5 win over Lake Park-Audubon last Monday night. All of the runs came on a two out rally, which began with a Drew Mekalson 2-run single that brought Asher Blaine and Logan Brekke across the plate. 

Zach Longfors followed with a bases clearing 3-run double to make the score 10-5 in favor of Frazee, before Derek Zitzow and Blaine followed with RBI singles to make the score 12-5. 

As a team the Hornets pumped out 18 hits with Kale Ovsak and Derek Zitzow leading the way with 4 hits apiece. Asher Blaine finished with 3 hits, while Zach Longfors led the team with 4 RBIs. 

Blaine picked up the win on the mound as he went 2 innings and gave up just 1 hit and struck out 2 hitters. 

Thursday

Frazee dropped a pair of Heart O’ Lakes Conference games to Barnesville on Thursday night. 

In the opening game of the night, Frazee outhit Barnesville by a 9-6 margin, but the Hornets’ lone run of the game came on a Zach Longfors RBI single in the top of the seventh inning. 

Longfors and Kale Ovsak led the way offensively with a pair of hits, while Mark Jaroszewski took the loss on the mound as he went 6 innings and gave up 6 earned runs and struck out 7 hitters.

In the final game of the night, Frazee led 5-1 heading into the top of the sixth inning when Barnesville scored 3 runs and pulled away for good in the top of the seventh inning with 5 runs to take the game by a score of 9-5. 

Frazee started the game on fire from the plate as Mark Jaroszewski put the Hornets on the board with an RBI single, before Asher Blaine hit an RBI single with two outs to make the game 2-0. Drew Mekalson put the Hornets in front by a score of 4-0 with a 2-run single later in the inning. 

Frazee made the score 5-0 when Tyler Moe scored on an error in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Barnesville was able to take the lead for good in the top of the seventh inning on an error on their way to a 5-run inning to come away with a 9-5 win. 

As a team, Zach Longfors once again led the way offensively with 2 hits, while Mekalson took the loss on the mound after giving up 3 earned runs and 1 hit in the top of the seventh inning.
