Mahoney named to CSC Academic All-District team

The University of Minnesota Morris softball team had five members of the squad named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team on Tuesday, May 16, including Frazee’s Brenna Mahoney.
Seniors Adrianna Johnson, Mahoney, and Autumn Theis, along with sophomores Anna Athey and Sierra Stevens were all recognized with the honor.
Each year, the UMAC recognizes one member of each team with a Sportsmanship Award. This year’s recipient from Minnesota Morris was Brenna Mahoney,
Among the recent graduates, Johnson has posted a 3.72 cumulative GPA with a triple major of Biology, Psychology, and Pre-Physical Therapy. She will be attending Creighton University in the fall to earn a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Mahoney has a cumulative 3.99 GPA in Exercise Science and Pre-Physical Therapy and will be attending the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse to also earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Theis has a cumulative GPA of 3.59 in Elementary Education and will soon be entering the workforce in the months ahead.
In her completed studies thus far, Athey has put together a cumulative GPA of 3.95 and is triple-majoring in Biology, Psychology, and Pre-Physical Therapy. Stevens is a Biology and Pre-Med double major and carries a 3.60 cumulative GPA.
All five Cougars had solid seasons in 2023, with Stevens starting all 39 games and posting a .320 batting average with a team-best three home runs. Mahoney was a .325 hitter on the year and played excellent defense in right field. Johnson was a .306 hitter while doubling as the top pitcher for Minnesota Morris with an 8-9 record in the circle. Theis also was one of a trio of pitchers for the Cougars and had a 1-6 record while batting .308 for the season. Athey split time in the infield and behind the plate defensively and had the team’s top fielding percentage among the starting lineup, while adding a .280 batting average.
The Cougars wrapped up the 2023 season with an overall record of 14-25. The team’s 8-13 record in the UMAC was one game shy of a return trip to the UMAC Tournament.
