The Cormorant Area Art Club (CAAC) recently presented a check to the Detroit Lakes Elementary Art program. Each year, during the club’s annual art show, donations are received in honor of DeVaughn Kolke, founding member of the club.

The donations are ear-marked for scholarship opportunities to area schools to help with purchasing art supplies and fostering further appreciation for art with the youth served through the schools.

The CAAC has been meeting in the Cormorant Community Center since 1997 and in 2003 the club became a non-profit organization with the help of the Lake Region Arts Council. Their first public art show was in 1997 to share their efforts with their neighbors.

Today, the art show attracts over 400 guests to a two-day event held each year on the weekend following the Fourth of July. From its beginning, the Club has provided mentoring, art demonstrations and workshops for its members and the community.
