Crabtree, 4×400-meter relay team wins section titles

0Hornets qualify for state track in three events

Brynn Larson and Brady Crabtree skied above the competition at the section track meet last week as they qualified for the state meet in the high jump and pole vault.
Larson took second place in the high jump with a jump of 5’2” in what turned out to be a hot and muggy day at Pelican Rapids.
Crabtree took first place with a vault of 12’11” in the pole vault to win the Section 6A title. He finished a full 3 inches in front of Tryvon Benson of Pelican Rapids and Noah Novotny of Perham who both finished with a vault of 12’8”.
In addition to the two individual participants, the 4×400-meter relay team of Hailey Selly, Jayden Sonnenberg, Larson and Elsie Ratz (alternates Lainey Jacobson, Aynslee Johannsen, Madi Perrine and Aubree Bristlin) captured the section championship after they finished with a time of 4:07.53 to take first place. They edged the team from Perham by 2 full seconds to qualify for the state met.
The state track meet will be held from Thursday through Saturday at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
In addition to the state qualifiers, several Hornets came just seconds away from qualifying for the state meet.
Selly and Larson finished in sixth and seventh place in the 100-meter dash with times of 13.56 and 13.58, while Ratz took third place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.19.
Kaidence Mayfield took fourth place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.99, while Olivia Petron took sixth place with a time of 17.49. Madie Perrine took sixth place in the 1600-meter run, while Selly and Mayfield finished back-to-back in the 300-meter hurdles in sixth and seventh place with times of 49.06 and 50.06.
In the field events, Sonnenberg took third place in the triple jump with a jump of 34’7 1/4”, as well as fifth in the high jump with a jump of 5’0”.
Selly took fifth in the long jump with a jump of 16’ 1/2” and Mayfield took fifth place in the triple jump with a jump of 34’5”.
On the boys side of th track, Roy Hoehne placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.66.
Aldridge Aidan and Hunter Lyman both placed in the top eight in the discus. Aldridge took fourth place with a throw of 121’4 1/2”, while Lyman placed eighth with a throw of 110’10”.
