The Callaway Volunteer Fire Department, a dedicated group of 19 volunteer firefighters serving the Callaway community, received a $10,000 donation from Wild Rice Electric Cooperative’s Operation Roundup Program.

This donation is specifically aimed at supporting the construction of a medical helicopter landing pad. The need for this project has been recognized over the past two years due to the importance of providing prompt assistance in emergency situations with the Callaway community.

Currently, when a medical helicopter is dispatched, multiple first responder resources are required to block off roads and highways to create a safe landing zone. The construction of a designated landing pad will significantly improve safety and efficiency for both the victims and first responders involved.

By eliminating the need to block off major roadways, the landing pad will expedite the arrival of medical helicopters, ensuring swift assistance in critical situations.

The project is slated to start later this summer or early fall.

The Callaway Volunteer Fire Department, which has served their community for 65 years, is grateful for the support provided by Wild Rice Electric through their Operation Roundup Program. Wild Rice Electric understands the significance of this project in offering a vital service to the mutual communities and members they serve.

Operation Roundup is a fantastic way for Wild Rice Electric Cooperative members to give back to their community and support important causes. For those interested in participating in the program, it is easy to sign up by visiting their website at or by calling 800-244-5709.

By rounding up their energy bills to the nearest dollar, participants can contribute to the Operation Roundup fund, which supports local non-profit organizations that provide important services and support to the community.

The Operation Roundup committee is made up of volunteers from the cooperative’s membership, which is a great example of how communities can work together to make a difference.
