Late run lifts DGF past Post 15 7-6

Frazee Post 15 opened its postseason tournament with a commanding 6-2 win over Hawley, before falling to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton by a score of 7-6 on Saturday. 

Results from Sunday’s game against Barnesville were not available at the time of press. All of the games last weekend were held in New York Mills.

Friday

Frazee scored 4 runs in the top of the fourth inning as they came away with a 6-2 win over Hawley on Friday afternoon. After Hawley broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly, Frazee erupted for 4 runs in the top of the fourth inning that proved to be the difference in the game. 

Caden Frank led off the inning with a single, before Zach Longfors popped out to the pitcher. Frank would later score on an error to tie the game at 1-1. Asher Blaine gave Post 15 the lead when he hit an RBI double to bring Mark Jaroszewski across the plate. 

Derek Zitzow followed with a single and Gage Post walked to load the bases up with just 1 out. Logan Brekke brought a pair of runs home with a 2-run double to make the score 4-1 in favor of Frazee. 

Post 15 added a pair of insurance runs on a passed ball in the fifth inning and a fielder’s choice in the top of the sixth inning to come away with the 6-2 win. 

Blaine picked up the win on the mound as he went 6 innings and gave up  just 7 hits and 2 earned runs, while striking out 13 hitters. 

Saturday

On Saturday Post 15 had its comeback effort come up just short as they fell to DGF by a score of 7-6. Post 15 opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Kale Ovsak scored on an error by the short stop and Caden Frank scored on a fielder’s choice to make the score 2-0. DGF tied the game up in the bottom of the first inning on a fielder’s choice and Frazee error. 

DGF took the lead in the bottom of the second inning on a 2-run double to make the score 4-2. 

Gage Post brought Nathan Longfors across the plate in the top of the fourth inning on a fielder’s choice to cut the lead to 4-3 in favor of DGF. 

DGF scored a pair of insurance runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, before Frazee tied the game at 6-6 with a dramatic 3-run top of the sixth inning. Zach Longfors led off the sixth inning with a walk, before Mark Jaroszewski hit an RBI double and Asher Blaine followed with an RBI single of his own to make the score 6-5 in favor of DGF. 

A Derek Zitzow single left runners on first and second base with no outs, before Blaine scored on a Gage Post fielder’s choice to tie the game up at 6-6. Logan Brekke followed with a single to leave runners at the corners with just one out. Unfortunately, the next two hitters truck out swinging to leave the score at 6-6. 

In the bottom half of the sixth inning DGF would score what would be the winning run on an error with two outs, one of four errors for Post 15 in the game, to make the score 7-6 in favor of DGF.

Frazee went down in order in the top of the seventh inning to leave the game at 7-6. 

Blaine led the way offensively with a pair of singles, while Post had 2 RBIs in the loss. 

Jaroszewski took the loss on the mound as he surrendered 6 earned runs and 8 hits, while striking out 4 hitters.
