Notes from the Chief

Well, Turkey Days has come and gone once again and there is not a lot to report. We had a couple little scuffles including a “cat fight” at the street dance, other than that, things went very smoothly from the PoPo side of things.

I did give one couple a ride home, he was ok, but she needed to lean on the mailbox as she expelled some of the celebratory cocktails she had consumed. I got to lead the parade again and by the time I was halfway through, my face hurt from smiling so much. The tennis elbow didn’t kick in as I improved my waving technique from last year.

We are about done haying for the year, there may be a small field or 2 left. The pastures are starting to burn up, but we did get an inch of rain last Tuesday, so that may help. We will have to bring some of the herd home, 14 cow/calf pairs and a bull. There are a couple of fields that we did not cut a second crop so hopefully we will be able to rotate the herd though those fields. We are almost finished with a new watering system on the farm where we will be able to provide fresh water 3/4 of a mile from the farm. 2,700 feet of buried water lines and several more thousand feet of water lines laid on the ground along the fence line. We have four 400-gallon tire tanks to keep the herd happy and this will help with the rotational grazing system.
