Frazee falls to Pelican Rapids in HOL action

With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Frazee Hornets once again had a solid week on the court as they split a pair of games. 

On Monday, the Hornets defeated Menahga by a score of 3-0, before falling to Pelican Rapids in the Block Out Cancer Night by a score of 3-0 in Heart O’ Lakes Conference action. Frazee is 8-12 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

This week the Hornets will travel to Perham on Tuesday night to take on the Yellowjackets, before hosting Breckenridge on Thursday in a pair of HOL Conference games. 

On Thursday, Sept. 28, the Hornets fell to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton by a score of 3-1. After dropping the first game by a score of 25-15, the Hornets tied the match up at one game apiece when they won a tight 28-26 game. Unfortunately, they fell 25-9 and 25-7 to drop the match by a score of 3-1. 

Sophia Strand and Hailee Olson led the team with 4 and 2 aces respectively, while Riyan Eckert 5 kills, Ashley Malikowski 4 kills and Jayden Sonnenberg 3 kills led the team on the offensive end of the court. Sonnenberg also led the team with 4 assisted blocks and Brynn Larson finished with 3.

On the defensive end of the court, Hailey Selly led the team with 26 digs.

On Saturday, Sept. 30 the Hornets went 2-2 at the Barnesville Tournament. The Hornets picked up a 2-0 win over Battle lake and a 2-0 win over Menahga, while falling in a pair of 2-1 games to Breckenridge and Barnesville.

Olson led the team with 12 aces, while Sonnenberg finished with 7 and Strand 5. On the offensive end of the court, Elsie Ratz led the team with 28 kills, while Sonnenberg finished with 18 and Eckert 15. Olson and Strand led the team with 42 and 26 assists, while Sonnenberg led the team with 6 solo and 5 assisted blocks. Eckert chipped in with 3 solo blocks.

Defensively, Selly finished with 43 digs and Ratz finished with 30 digs. 

On Monday night, the Hornets swept the Menahga Braves in non-conference action 3-0. Frazee jumped out to an early lead after defeating the Braves 25-12 in the first game, before edging the Braves 25-16 in the second game. The Hornets closed out the match 25-20
in the third game to come away with their eighth win of the season. 

Eckert led the team on the service line with 4 aces, while Olson and Strand led the team in assists with 17 and 7 respectively. 

Ratz had a solid night at the net as she finished with a team-high 8 kills, Eckert and Sonnenberg finished with 5 kills apiece. 

On the defensive end of the court, Selly led the team with 17 digs.

Frazee fell to the Pelican Rapids Vikings 3-0 on Thursday night. The Vikings were able to defeat the Hornets 25-22 in the opening game of the night, before the Hornets fought back in the second game and fell by a narrow 27-25 margin to drop into a 2-0 hole.

In the third game the Hornets played point-for-point with the Vikings before falling by a score of 25-17.

Offensively the Hornets were led by a balanced attack of Ratz who finished with 12 kills and Sonnenberg and Larson who both finished with 5 kills. Eckert and Malikowski led the team with 2 solo blocks, while Eckert and Selly finished with 18 digs apiece. 

Olson and Strand led the team in assists with 13.
