Notes from the Chief

The cows have been moved to the last pasture for the season. This is a large hayfield that we cut two crops on and left to grow for fall pasture. Hopefully, we can get a couple weeks out of this, but we may start to feed some corn silage. Feeding the corn silage will extend the pasture a bit before the snow flies.

We had the first hard freeze with the temps down to 25 degrees one morning. The only issue we had was some of the water lines to the tire tanks froze but thawed later in the day. Luckily, none of the water lines or fixtures sprung a leak.

Going forward I know I will need to drain or shut off the water before a hard frost. Live and learn, they say.

Fall cleanup is continuing on the farm with the cold storage shed getting full. There is a combine, swather, small square baler, two hay cutters, 5 tractors, big round baler and the tub grinder mixer inside so far. There are still 4 tractors outside that we need to make room for. It’s like trying to cram 10 pounds of crap into a 5-pound pale. Have a nice week!
