Frazee found itself in some early foul trouble last week, which led to 31 free throw attempts by Hawley as the Nuggets went on to hand the Hornets their first loss of the season by a score of 78-62 on Thursday night.
The Nuggets went 20-31 from the free throw line, compared to just 5-9 by the Hornets. Head coach Ryan Vigen said it is difficult to win games when there is such a disparity at the free throw line.
Despite the early foul trouble the Hornets trailed just 35-29 at halftime thanks to shooting 46.6 percent from the field and nine 3-pointers.
The Hornets were led offensively by Adam Vigen who went 7-14 from the field with 19 points. He went an impressive 3-5 from the 3-point line. Alex Helmers scored 17 points, while Asher Blaine scored 16 points and Carter Sonnenberg scored 15 points. Nathan Longfors rounded out the scoring with 1 point.
Blaine and Sonnenberg each pulled 7 rebounds in the loss.
The loss drops the Hornets to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.
