The Frazee Hornets overcame a slow start to trail perennial power Pelican Rapids by just 1 point at halftime on Thursday night. The Hornets were led in the opening 18 minutes by Ashley Malikowski who was able to will Frazee to within just 1 point at the break. 

The Hornets came out of the gates firing in the second half to take an early led, but the Vikings fought back and with less-than 8 minutes remaining in the game as they took the lead for good on their way to a 55-44 win over the Hornets. 

“The Frazee girls played an amazing game and their defense was great,” said head coach Trey Heinsius. “We just had a tough shooting night.”

The Hornets were led by Jayden Sonnenberg as she finished with a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. She also had 6 steals. Malikowski finished with 10 points and 4 rebounds, while Riyan Eckert hit 3 3-pointers to finish with 9 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal, Brynn Larson scored 7 points and pulled down 4 rebounds, Katie Courneya scored 6 points and Hailey Selly scored 4 points, 1 assist, 8 rebounds and 2 steals. 

The loss drops the Hornets to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in the conference. This week the Hornets traveled to Sebeka on Monday night, before traveling to Barnesville on Thursday for their final game of the 2023 portion of their schedule.
