Frazee defeats Cowboys for second HOL win of the season

The Frazee Hornets picked up its second conference win of the season and swept the season series with the Breckenridge Cowboys on Thursday night. The win improves the Hornets to 4-11 overall and 2-5 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.
This week the Hornets will host Hawley on Tuesday night, before traveling to Concordia College in Moorhead on Saturday to take on the Barnesville Trojans.
Tuesday
Frazee traveled north to Crookston on Tuesday night and came out on the short end of a 68-58 non-conference game. The Pirates led the Hornets by a score of 32-28 at halftime and Frazee kept the game within single digits for much of the second half. One of the big differences in the game came in the paint where the Pirates held a 42-18 advantage on the boards, which led to 17 second chance points for Crookston.
Asher Blaine led the way offensively for the Hornets with 17 points on just 7-14 shooting from the field. Carter Sonnenberg scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Alex Helmers scored 10 points and Adam Vigen finished with 9 points and 4 assists in the loss.

Thursday
Frazee took the lead early in the first half and never looked back as they defeated the Breckenridge Cowboys for the second time this season, this time of a score of 55-38. The Hornets led by a score of 23-14 at halftime and continued to find success on both the offensive and defensive end of the court throughout the second half.
“It was good to see the boys get back to themselves,” said head coach Ryan Vigen. “Everybody played with a lot of heart.”
While the Hornets shot just 32 percent from the field they found quite a bit of success from behind the 3-point line as they hit eight 3-pointers and went 7-10 from the free throw line. The Hornets also held a 15-5 advantage in points off of turnovers and held a 37-32 advantage in rebounding.
The Frazee success continued on defense as well as the Hornets forces 25 turnovers and had 22 pass deflections in the win.
Alex Helmers had a big night from the field on Thursday as he scored 23 points to lead the charge for Frazee.
“Alex got going offensively, Carter was a monster on the boards and Nathan seemed to be everywhere all night,” said Vigen.
Adam Vigen scored 15 points to go along with 6 assists, while Asher Blaine scored 9 points and Carter Sonnenberg finished with a team-high 12 rebounds.
