Curiosity got the best of Tammy Wothe, and it led to her changing careers from a personal care assistant to an actress. Her most recent work was for Prairie Public TV, in which she performed in a skit for Giving Heart’s Day (Feb. 14), which helps raise money for charities. “I have to be hush-hush about it other than that for now,” she said. The drastic change began when the Frazee resident learned a casting call was put out to find extras for a film that had some scenes shot in Fargo.

Collections come in various packages. For Karen Weeks, who grew up in Frazee, time has brought a collection of memories and postcards from friends overseas. When she graduated from Frazee High School in 1993, she could have never imagined what issues she might face and what challenges may come her way. “I have had cancer twice, ovarian stage four at age 15 and thyroid cancer stage three at 36. Currently I am a Graves’ disease warrior. I had never been on a plane, but flew internationally after being diagnosed with Graves’ disease in 2013. It is a 17-hour flight and I landed in Germany. I took seven trips in five years,” she said.

A year ago, in this month filled with hearts and flowers, Jan Steinhaus Marrs considered herself outside the realm of Cupid. Jan, Frazee, calls herself a pessimist. She didn’t count on some wonderful surprises life had in store for her. The best surprise developed after renewing an acquaintance with her former high school classmate Chuck Marrs. For Jan, the pessimist, Chuck’s approach to life brushed aside her doubts. As she said, “He operates on faith.” That faith has taken them a long way. He asked her to marry him and Jan’s answer was, “Yes.” They were married last fall, on Oct. 23.
