Hamm places third at section wrestling

Grace Hamm didn’t just lay the groundwork for the future of girls wrestling at Frazee High School, the seventh grader set the foundation and set a lofty bar for future Hornets to try to achieve this past season. Hamm, who is the first Hornet to ever compete in the girls section wrestling tournament, wrapped up her seventh grade season on the mat with a tremendous record of 29-4 and third place finish at the Section 6 and Section 8 meet on Saturday.
Hamm opened the tournament with a pin in just 55 seconds in the quarterfinals over Skylar LaRue of West Central Area.
In the semi-finals, Hamm fell to Brenalen Fredriksen-Holm of Bemidji by a 6-2 decision to fall to the consolation bracket.
The seventh grader rebounded in a big way with a pin over Holly Bergin of Brainerd at the 3:35 mark of the consolation semi-finals to advance to the third place match.
In the third place match, Hamm defeated Charli Snyder of Wadena-Deer Creek by a 7-6 decision to capture third place in the section tournament.
This is the first year Frazee has had a wrestler in the girls section tournament.
