With just two games left in the regular season, the Frazee Hornets seem to be hitting their stride on both the offensive and defensive end of the court. The Hornets won a pair of games last week against Park Rapids Area and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, to improve to 3-1 in their past four games and 11-11 overall.

Frazee will wrap up the regular season this week with a home game against Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday and New York Mills on Friday in a pair of home non-conference games. The sub section playoffs are set for next week. Currently the Hornets are in eighth place in the sub section standings according to the QRF.

Frazee went an impressive 23-24 from the free throw line as they defeated Park Rapids Area in non-conference action by a score of 70-59 on Tuesday night.

With the start of the sub section tournament right around the corner, Head coach Trey Heinsius said the Hornets are playing some of their best basketball of the season.

“After dealing with some sickness and a long week last week the lady hornets came out firing on both ends of the court,” said Heinsius. “We are playing some of our best basketball at just the right time.”

Jayden Sonnenberg had a solid game from the floor as she recorded a double-double with 31 points and 16 rebounds. Brynn Larson scored 24 points to go along with 6 rebounds, while Riyan Eckert and Hailey Selly each scored 5 points. Analise Olson scored 3 points and Katie Courneya rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

Just one month after falling to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton by a score of 70-49, the Frazee Hornets were able to flip the script on the Rebels last week as they secured a 73-41 win. The win is not only the second conference win of the season for the Hornets, but is also an important game in a tight race for seeding in a competitive Section 8AA standings.

Head coach Trey Heinsius said he was pleased with how the team came out of the gate and shot the ball well from the floor throughout the night.

“The Hornets came out with some stepping on the gas right away and never letting up. We had an amazing shooting performance from all the girls,” said Heinsius.

Riyan Eckert finished a perfect 4-4 from behind the 3-point line to finish with 14 points, while Brynn Larson scored 18 points and Katie Courneya scored 13 points.

Jayden Sonnenberg once again had a solid night from the floor as she recorded a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Ashley Malikowski scored 5 points and Analise Olson finished with 2 points.

With the Hornets missing Hailey Selly due to the state dance competition, Heinsius said Courneya and Analise Olson really stepped up and played a solid game from the floor to lift the Hornets to the win.
