Seven months after Annie Bachmann was in a vehicle accident that broke her back, the Frazee High School senior is healed and walking without a brace. “Unless I fall, yesterday (Feb. 7) was my last appointment,” she said. “I was told I’m all healed.” The daughter of Brad and Sarah Bachmann does have limitations, but will need to be cognizant of her posture. She explained her workout regimen can only include elliptical equipment or swimming and she can only lift up to 20 pounds.
Addison Buhl made his mark in Vergas when he orchestrated the build of a handicapped accessible ramp to the much-used shelter at Long Lake beach before he graduated from high school. A fire Monday resulted in over $150,000 in loss to Steve and Carmen Ehnert of rural Vergas. The Ehnert’s shop/garage was fully engaged when firemen arrived shortly after the whistle blew at 4:58 p.m. The structure was a total loss as were its contents, said CDH-Vergas Fire Chief Paul Pike. Stored inside the building were two truck snowplows with wings, a small loader and lots of shop tools. Ehnert contracts with townships for snow removal and plowing, Pinke added. No one was inside the shop when the fire started. Carmen had stepped outside, noticed the smoke and called 911.

An outbreak of flu, which has spread throughout this area recently, has forced the closing of the Frazee-Vergas Schools. The schools were closed on Wednesday and will remain closed the rest of the week. Classes will resume on Monday, March 4. Parents should note this change back to the former school hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The time has been changed about a month ago due to the switch to Daylight Saving Time. Supt. Carl Ingebrigtson said there were 70 new cases of flu reported at the schools Tuesday morning bringing absenteeism to a high of 388 students at the start of Tuesday’s session. Several other students were forced to go home during the day with the illness. Mr. Ingebrigtson said the total absenteeism would run in the area of 27 percent of the school enrollment. In addition to students, there were six teachers, four aides and the head cook absent with the flu.
