Frazee came just seconds away from pulling off one of their biggest upsets in recent memory on Saturday night as the seventh seeded Hornets fell to Pelican Rapids by a score of 71-62 to second seeded and seventh ranked Pelican Rapids. The Vikings came into the game with a 23-3 record and defeated the Hornets by scores of 55-49 and 55-44 earlier this season.

Nonetheless, after defeating Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton by a score of 57-42 in the opening round of the Section 8AA tournament, the Hornets were poised to knock off the Vikings as they led throughout much of the second half, as well as in the second overtime when Pelican Rapids hit a 3-pointer as time was expiring to second the game to a third and final overtime.

Unfortunately, the Vikings took the momentum gained from that heartbreaking 3-pointer to outscore the Hornets by 9 points in the third overtime and come away with the 71-62 to end Frazee’s season with an overall record of 13-13.

Pelican Rapids will now take on sixth seeded Hawley who upset third seeded Menahga by a score of 48-27 on Saturday night, while top seeded Perham will take on fourth seeded Barnesville in the other sub section semi-final match up. The final four teams in the Section 8AA tournament are all from the Heart O’ Lakes Conference and five of the final eight teams in the tournament were also from the same conference. The semi-finals are set for Wednesday night at Concordia College in Moorhead and the finals will be held on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Concordia.
