Rural Frazee resident and author Georgia Nigel and illustrator Kris Carr signed many books during an event at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge on Sunday, including one for Eleanor Auna, an 8-year-old from St. Paul who was visiting a family lake cabin near the refuge. Auna looked forward to reading “Maurice the Goat Finds His Real Family.”
The Maple Syrup Festival in Vergas has a day filled with food and fun, including a syrup contest, 5K, medallion hunt and more. The maple syrup contest drew 20 entrants last year with Dave Sanders of Moorhead taking home top honors. Maple syrup producers from the area are invited to bring in a half pint of their maple syrup to the Vergas Event Center. The syrup will be judged for clarity. If it passes that test, it will go to the next round which tests for sweetness.

Come May 1, a new manufacturing business should open in Frazee. Quantum Mfg. Inc. plans to open shop temporarily in the former Swift building on the east end of Main Avenue. It will manufacture custom machine parts. The new company will be owned by the husband/wife team of Eric and Bonita Anderson. Bonita (formerly Jepson) is a 1980 graduate of Frazee High School. Things will be finalized once the loan is approved and the fine print is worked out. The Andersons are also waiting for state approval on the Quantum Mfg.’s name.
Easter is a time known for its bunny rabbits and, obviously, a lot more. Luke Perrine, 12, son of Linda and Lonnie Perrine of rural Frazee, holds two of his female rabbits. They should be multiplying soon, as spring is a time of rebirth. Luke also raises hogs, cattle, baby turkeys, ducks and chickens. Luke is a champion pumpkin grower and wins many awards at the Becker County Fair for his efforts. His mother, a master gardener, shares every sixth row with Luke so he can learn more about plants.
It appears the Frazee City liquor licenses could be ready in time for the April 15 opening of Carlitos Cantina & Mexican Restaurant. During a special Frazee City Council meeting Monday night, the council granted Chuck and Brenda Minge both on-sale and Sunday liquor licenses. The licenses are new to the city, as they were approved by a large majority of voters in a March 23 election.

Community Health Center, Inc. of Frazee has been informed by its legal counsel that the liquidation and dissolution of the corporation can now proceed. A majority of the stockholders voted for dissolution and liquidation of the corporation and the clinic building was sold to the Frazee-Vergas School District after all efforts to obtain another doctor failed. Peoples State Bank of Frazee has been designated to handle the liquidation of stock. Stock certificates must be turned in for cancellation. Upon receipt of the certificates, assigned and witnessed on the back, a check will be issued to the stockholder for the PAR value.
Two Minneapolis men and a 16-year-old youth have been arrested in connection with the break-in and attempted burglary at the Frazee High School early Saturday morning. The break-in was followed by a high speed chase and an exchange of gunfire as Frazee policeman Virgil Anderson attempted to stop the suspects. Anderson said he became suspicious when he was patrolling and saw two men running down the street from the water tower area. He then saw another person running. Anderson said he quickly checked the school area and saw a broken glass panel in the west school door. Anderson then saw a car speeding out of town and after it failed to stop for his flashing lights, gave pursuit. The events took place about 2:45 a.m. Saturday.
