Every day is a gift for 22-year-old Shelby Munger. The Wolf Lake resident learned that lesson when she was 7-years-old and diagnosed with Synovial sarcoma. The daughter of Ron and Carolyn Munger explained Synovial sarcoma is a cancer that impacts soft tissue, and is considered one of the rarest types. After one surgery, the cancer that could’ve taken her life was gone. Because they caught it so early, and it hadn’t spread to surrounding tissue, Munger didn’t need chemotherapy or radiation treatment. Munger remains cancer free. She has a small indent where the lump was removed, and a scar that tells the story of where 18 stitches were placed in her right outer thigh.
A river walk from Hank Ludtke Park to State Highway 87 is under consideration. During a Parks and Recreation Committee meeting on Monday, April 1, the group agreed a primitive path along the river bank would be a nice addition to the city. City Utilities Superintendent Larry Stephenson said the crew had begun cutting a grass path along the river bank years ago, but received pushback from one property owner near there, which brought the project to a halt. It was noted that property has since sold.

Frazee Collectible & Sport will be reopening Tuesday, said co-owner John Jensen. “That’s a firm date,” he said. Except it won’t be called Frazee Collectible & Sport anymore. It will be called John Jensen Collectibles. Jensen still has a partner, but it’s a different partner. He’s Harold Rippy, who lives on Leaf Lake, near Detroit Lakes. Jensen is no longer associated with Rich Zastrow, he stressed. The business opened in September and closed in January. A grand opening is scheduled Tuesday through Saturday, April 17. At this week’s John Jensen Sporting Collectibles Antique Firearms Show and Contemporary Arts Show at the Perham Community Center, brochures will be given with coupons for 10 percent off anything in the store during the grand opening.
Work started last week on tripling Frazee’s water capacity. Maguire Tank of Sioux Falls began the process of assembling a new 300,000-gallon water tank to replace the community’s nine-decade-old 100,000-gallon tank. The new 150-foot tower will be erected near Frazee Elementary School.
