The lakes area is about to welcome its first sushi bar and hibachi grill. Steve Tucker, a 1989 Frazee High School graduate, and his wife Rayna, recently purchased the former Country Kitchen building located along U.S. Highway 10 in Detroit Lakes. The sign has been removed and the interior is already gutted as the space is being transformed into Sapphire Sushi, Hibachi and American cuisine. The menu also includes broasted chicken and a full bar. The Tuckers have plenty of food and bar experience, as they owned the Ice Cracking Lodge for several years before selling it this past spring. Rayna explained they sold the business to be closer to town, as their children are now more involved with sports and other activities. The two have two adult children: Stephen and Sam and two under 18: Taylor and Jordan.
A vehicle drove into a home at Town Lake Trailer Park on Monday, April 8 around 7 p.m. Joshua Goodman, 19, Frazee was charged with reckless driving, property damage and reckless endangerment. Frazee Police Chief Tyler Trieglaff said Goodman had a verbal disagreement with his parents, who live in the trailer park. After the argument, Goodman got in a vehicle and left at a high rate of speed. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the living room area of a trailer house. Trieglaff stated the driver did not appear to be intoxicated.

Where there was one business, there’ll now be three. Three new businesses are planned in the Frazee Co-op Farm Service Association building in downtown Frazee. Two of them are already in operation: United Lubricants, Used Oil Filter Recycling, and Super Lube.
Marlene Smith, of rural, Dent has been hired as the liquor store manager in Frazee. Smith will replace Al Brandt, who resigned last year as manager, but stayed on until a replacement could be found. Brandt also plans to assist in the changeover. Smith is currently a bartender at Dent Triple Play, a privately-owned on and off-sale establishment. She’s worked there two years. Smith also has some restaurant waitressing experience. She’s never had a management position before, but looks forward to the challenge. “I have a few ideas already about changes and updating,” she said. “Hopefully, I’ll do good. I’m a people person.”

One of Frazee’s oldest landmark buildings on Main Ave. has been torn down. The building, known for many years as the Hall Bros. Building, now owned by Q.P. Walseth, is being removed by Art Bohne. This was one of the oldest structures in Frazee, being built in 1902 by Brockett and Castle. Over the years it was occupied by a number of businesses, first as a pool hall and duck pin bowling place. Dennis L. Durkin oeprated a general store there from 1913-1915; later a restaurant occupied the building. E.M. Hall and Fred Hall moved their harness and shoe repair business there about 1930 and continued until 1953. Also during these years Don Harmer had his barber shop in a portion of the building.
