0The Frazee Hornets boys golf team attended a Heart O’ Lakes Conference meet on Monday.
The weather was cool and breezy. The course was in early season shape, which meant the greens were very slow which was a bit hard to adjust to.
Frazee’s number one golfer Adam Vigen went out fairly strong, but his wedges would not cooperate throughout the day. He ended up shooting an 87 on the day.
Frazee’s number two golfer on the day was Cayden Wallin. His day was just inconsistent and penalty strokes made his score go higher than he would have liked. He would hit some great shots followed by a penalty. He ended the day shooting 91.
Ben Reierson played the third spot and also shot a 91. It was his first meet of the year and just could not get a groove going. He started the meet shooting bogey golf, but pressed some and made some mistakes which made his score grow. Putting was tough for him on these slow greens and cost him most of his strokes.
Frazee’s number four golfer Danny Winn had a nice day for himself shooting 93, which is one of his lowest rounds since joining golf. He said he was just consistent with everything. Winn is determined to go lower and lower throughout the season.
Tyler Lindell was playing the fifth spot on Monday. He had played well in his first meet of the season, which also was his first varsity action. He shot 99 on the day, but did not dress for the weather and could not get comfortable.
Rounding out the scored team was Gavin Pope he shot 106, but struggled with a hand injury. Also golfing with the team was Alex Helmers who is in his first year golfing competitively for the Hornets. He definitely learned some things as he went along. He shot 107 on the day. He has a nice swing that will develop as he plays more with the Hornets.
Head coach Jason Reierson said the Hornets will need to get more practice so they can get more consistent.
