Inclement weather once again wreaked havoc on the Frazee Hornets softball schedule last week.

Hailee Olson checks a runner back to third base during a recent game in Frazee.

On Monday night the Hornets hosted New York Mills in a game that was originally scheduled for the road, before hosting the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels on Friday night. The Hornets dropped all three games, but played at a high level of ball in their conference games against the defending Section 8AA champion Rebels on Friday night.

With just two weeks remaining in the regular season the Hornets have a busy stretch of games to close out their campaign. On Tuesday the Hornets will host Breckenridge in a doubleheader, before heading to Hawley on Thursday night for another conference doubleheader.

On Monday night the Hornets will travel to Pelican Rapids for a doubleheader, before traveling to Menahga on Tuesday, May 14 for a non-conference game against the Braves.

Monday

Frazee fell to the New York Mills Eagles by a score of 23-2 on Monday night. After taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Eagles scored 11 runs in the second inning and nine runs in the third inning to come away with the win. The game was ended at the conclusion of the fourth inning.

Frazee’s lone runs of the game came in the second inning when Ellie Trieglaff scored and the third inning when Riyan Eckert led off the inning and scored one batter later on a Hailee Olson RBI single.

The Hornets were led offensively by Olson who had a pair of hits in two at bats.

Trieglaff took the loss on the mound as she gave up five runs and four hits over one inning of work.

Friday

The defending Section 8AA champions were able to get past Frazee by  scores of 9-1 and 11-0 on Friday night.

In the first game of the night, DGF scored one run in the top of the first inning and added three more in the top of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. The big difference in the game came in the top of the sixth inning when the Rebels scored five runs, four of which came with two outs, to take a 9-0 lead.

Despite having runners in scoring position in all-but two innings of the game, Frazee was not able to crack the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh inning when Riyan Eckert connected with a one out RBI double to bring Sophia Strand across the plate to score. Eckert also led the team in hitting with a pair of hits, but took the loss on the mound as she gave up nine runs and 14 hits over seven innings of action.

In the second game of the night, DGF scored nine runs in the bottom of the second inning to come away with an 11-0 win over the Hornets. They also added a single run in both the third and fourth innings.

Despite being shut out on the scoreboard, the Hornets were able to get runners on base throughout the game as they had runners in scoring positions in three out of the five innings.

Layla Post took the loss on the mound as she went 1 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs and six hits.

While the scoreboard didn’t go Frazee’s way in either of their games against DGF on Friday, head coach Tavia Bachmann said the team was completely different in how they approached Friday’s game and the energy they brought to the field than in the past few games. She said she was proud of the way the team adjusted in the games and hopes to see that continue down the stretch.
