Hornets compete at Section 6A True Team

Sheets of rain and cool temperatures didn’t stop the Frazee Hornets at the Section 6A True Team meet on Tuesday. The meet in Pelican Rapids was one of just two meets that the track team participated in last week. In addition to Tuesday’s meet, the Hornets hosted a four team meet on Thursday.

This week Frazee will host the Heart O’ Lakes Conference track meet on Tuesday night. 

Tuesday

Carter Sonnenberg and Brady Crabtree each captured first place in what turned out to be a rain soaked and less-than ideal Section 6A True Team meet in Pelican Rapids on Tuesday. With sheets of rain falling on the track at one point in the afternoon, the races went on as the Hornets competed for the right to go to state as a team against 14 other complete teams in the boys and girls meet.

Sonnenberg took first place in the high jump with a jump of 6’2”, while Crabtree took first place in the pole vault with a vault of 13’8”. Tyden Schaefer took third place with a vault of 11’6”, while Nathan Longfors took third place in the triple jump with a jump of 40’3” to narrowly edge Crabtree who took fourth place with a jump of 40’.

On the girls side, Jayden Sonnenberg picked up a pair of second place finishes in the high jump with a jump of 5’2” and the triple jump with a jump of 34’8 1/4”. 

Leslie Moore took third place in the shot put with a throw of 31’8” and Aynslee Johannsen took fifth place in the long jump with a jump of 15’ She also captured third place in the 100-meter hurdles.

On the track, Elsie Ratz picked up a third place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.52 and a fourth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.69.

Jayden Sonnenberg took third place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.05, while Johannsen took third place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.61.

Hailey Selly was the top finisher for the girls on the track as she took second place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.78.

Thursday

Just two days after competing in the large Section 6A True Team meet, the Frazee Hornets had the opportunity to showcase their new track for a small four team meet on Thursday night. The Hornets posted 32 season best times and secured 13 first place finishes. 

Jayden Sonnenberg captured first place in a pair of events including the 100-meter dash with a season best time of 13.53, as well as the high jump with a jump of 4’11”. 

Aynslee Johannsen took first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a season best time of 16.72, while the 4×200-meter and 4×400-meter relay teams also took first place. 

Lauryn Schmid and Bristol Larsen both posted season best times in the 1600-meter run to finish in second and third place with times of 6:33.92 and 6:43.8.

In the field events, Leslie Moore took first place in the shot put with a throw of 30’8” and took second place in the discus with a throw of 83’6”. 

On the boys side, Brady Crabtree captured a pair of first place finishes and a second place finish to lead the charge. He took first place in the pole vault with a vault of 13’9” to edge teammate Tyden Schaefer who finished in second place with a vault of 12’, while also taking first in the 200-meter dash with a season best time of 24.46 and took second in the 100-mete dash with a season best time of 12.19. 

Carter Sonnenberg took first place in both the high jump with a jump of 6’ and the triple jump with a jump of 38’10 1/2” to edge teammate William Stroburg who took second place with a season best jump of 35’8”. 

In the shot put, Blake Amundson took second place with a throw of 33’6”, Erick Rodelo took third place with a throw of 32’11” and Deandre Puttbrese took fifth place with a throw of 29’11”.
