The floating boardwalk along the shores of Long Lake in Vergas is slated to be bid out in July. The Vergas Long Lake Trail Committee was informed that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz recently signed the bill that included grant funding for the trail project. Vergas City Clerk Julie Lammers relayed the news during the trail committee’s monthly meeting on Thursday, June 6. Lammers said as of July 1 the project could be bid out, but there is still work to be done.
The thundering sound of hundreds of motorcycles could be heard from miles away on Saturday as bikers from across the region made their way to Wolf Lake as part of the 18th annual Ronald McDonald House RIDE. The motorcycle ride raises money each year for the Ronald McDonald House. The ride started and ended in New York Mills, but included stops in Wolf Lake and Wadena.
The turkey farms near the intersection of U.S. Highway 10 and State Highway 87 may be removed and evolved into commercial properties. In April the estimated 36 acre property was purchased by Terry Thompson. While Thompson initially planned to continue the contract with Jennie-O through 2021, the turkey producer worked out a deal to end the contract early. While other turkey growers have shown interest in utilizing the barns for productions, Thompson said he purchased the property with the intention of developing it into commercial properties.

The send-off party and wardrobe review for Miss Frazee Heather Carr will be tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 p.m. in the Frazee High School Media Center. Carr will be modeling the wardrobe she will be wearing at the Miss Minnesota Scholarship Pageant. She will also be performing her talent section and discussing her platform issue. Carr will be competing in the 1999 Miss Minnesota Scholarship Pageant June 12-19. The on-stage competitions will be held at St. Cloud University’s Kimberly A. Ritsche Auditorium in St. Cloud. Preliminary competitions will be June 17-18 with the crowning of the new Miss Minnesota June 19.
Frazee fans cheered the Frazee Hornet boys baseball team to victory last Thursday, including Dan Helm, Tara Heston, Missy Era, Emily Seaberg, Abby Era, Lisa Wilkowski, Amanda Kroshus and Matt Elmer. Fans should be even louder today (Thursday) as the Hornets take on Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in first-round state action at 10 a.m. at Joe Faber Field at Apollo High School in St. Cloud.

Jerome Tappe and Jack Dretsch have been named Frazee High School football co-captains for next year, it was announced by coach Frank Hesby.
Edna Foshaug of Detroit Lakes has assumed management of Sonnenberg’s Cafe in Frazee. She has been employed at Erie Jr. in Detroit Lakes for the past five years.
Peoples Natural Gas announces a change in rates for natural gas service for its customers in the communities of Detroit Lakes, Ada, Frazee and Audubon, Minn. according to R.P. Hermann, Division Manager for Peoples in Northern Minnesota. Mr. Hermann stated, that On April 1, 1974, our pipeline supplier, Midwestern Gas Transmission Company, placed into effect a purchased gas cost adjustment rate change which causes the wholesale rates paid by Peoples Natural Gas for the gas sold in these communities to be substantially higher.
The Daggett Truck Line Employees held their annual picnic Sunday at the Fireman’s Park at Eagle Lake. Many contests were held. The Eagle Lake champions, coached by Mrs. Dana Lundren, once again proved how mighty they were in the Tug-O-War Contest, by easily defeating the men. The Becker County Tug-O-War Champions are now in training as they have been challenged by the Eagle Lake Champions at a later date.
