Town Lake city beach received a makeover last spring as the City of Frazee teamed up with Becker County Soil and Water (BCSW) to decrease soil erosion and increase native foliage. The plan included adding logs, plants, grasses and flowers to three sections at the beach that covers about 4,605 square feet. The locations included a section north of the boat launch, between the boat launch and public beach area and between the picnic shelter and fishing pier.
Running through a field with his arms outstretched, Vernon Bachmann prepared to take flight. After about 100 yards, the power paraglider lifted the rural Frazee man gently into the sky and over the tree line. The son of Warren and Marlys Bachmann discovered the unique hobby of power paragliding after spending a decade skydiving.
The Frazee Fire Department is searching for a new truck ahead of schedule. During the regular scheduled Frazee City Council meeting on Monday, June 10, Frazee Fire Chief Joe Nelson reported the 1972 fire engine’s motor blew out on State Highway 87 while responding to a call in late May. Nelson said the engine was used for additional on-scene water supply and offered about 750 gallons of backup.

The City of Wolf Lake now has an up-to-date liquor ordinance. It was adopted at the June 8 meeting of the Wolf Lake City Council. “The city didn’t have a formal liquor ordinance,” explained City Attorney Luther Nervig, who drew up the ordinance. “They’re bringing it into conformance with state law. Now they have a current ordinance.” The ordinance was drawn up because of questions from the local VFW chapter, which operates a club and a restaurant, Nervig noted. Both the VFW and the Wolf Lake Lions are licensed for beer and setups, while the municipal store can sell liquor, according to Council member Cory Ylitalo.

Because of thoughtless and unlawful use of a rifle in a waterfowl refuge, the first release of Canada geese by the Frazee Sportsman’s Club was met with dismal failure. Both geese were shot with a .22 rifle in the refuge near the southeast edge of Frazee. The geese are still alive, but will never fly again. The Sportsman’s Club reminds people that no shooting is allowed on the waterfowl refuge. Anyone observing any shooting should call any Sportsman Club member who will in turn notify Game & Fish authorities. Some of the members you may notify are Ike Fisher, Duane Hass and Tony Dretsch. These were the first geese that were attempting to nest on their own in the wild on the refuge and had only been free three weeks before they were crippled by the shooting.
Each year the Frazee Mrs. Jaycees are sponsoring a project “Red Ball,” which is designed to help save the lives of children in case of fire. The Red Balls are placed in the bedroom window of each child in the home. If fire occurs the Red Ball points out where children can most likely be found, and therefore aids in their quick rescue.
