Reports of a suspicious person at the Hansel Lake Rest Area southeast of Fergus Falls led to the arrest of a carjacking suspect from Minneapolis.

According to a report by KFGO, 31-year-old Eliezer Rodriguez is charged with kidnapping, criminal sexual conduct and carjacking after abducting a woman at knifepoint last week on Cedar Lake Parkway, kidnapping and raping the victim.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol received reports of a suspicious person at the rest area at 7:15 a.m., on Saturday June 8.

Troopers identified the vehicle Rodriguez was driving was linked to the kidnapping in Minneapolis.

A shelter in place advisory for the city of Dalton was given as an air and ground search of the area was conducted.

Rodriguez was spotted by an area resident near the rest area At 2:41 Saturday afternoon and he was tracked within an hour by Otter Tail County Deputies, Grant County Deputies, State Troopers, and Department of Natural Resource officers after a short pursuit on foot.

Rodriguez surrendered to authorities and was transported to Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls for a medical issue unrelated to the arrest.

Upon being released from Lake Region, Rodriguez turned over to the custody of the Minneapolis Park Police and is currently being held in Hennepin County Jail.
