A 24-year-old man was found unresponsive by a citizen after swimming from shore and going underwater in Little Detroit Lake on Saturday, July 6, according to a press release from the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report that the man had disappeared underwater near the area of Zorbaz on the 400 block of West Lake Drive.

Emergency personnel from the Sheriff’s Office, Detroit Lakes Police Department, Minnesota Department of Natural Resource Conservation Office, the Becker County Dive Team and St. Mary’s EMS responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, citizens had begun a search for the man who was located minutes later by a citizen. The man was unresponsive, not breathing, and transported to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes prior to being transported to a Fargo area hospital. 

His current condition was unknown at the time of the press release.

The incident remains under investigation by the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.

The name of the individual will be released when proper family notifications can occur.
