0The Guest Juror Exhibit is always very popular with regional artists and gallery guests. The exhibition features the very best work from the regional artists and is a must see for Lake Region Arts Council Gallery visitors.
The guest juror this year is Deborahmae Broad. She taught Printmaking, Drawing and Bronze casting at Minnesota State University Moorhead (then Moorhead State University) from 1982 until 2003 when she retired to be a full-time artist.
Now as a full-time artist she attends two national art fairs a year to show and sell her wood engravings and etchings. Broad’s wood engravings are cut by hand in the traditional manner and are printed with screen printed colors on her lithographic press in her restored studio. She uses screen printed colors in her under the key plate in her etchings, and most of her wood engravings are large scale, rather than the typical small size of the medium.
Her chosen subjects are animals, mostly domestic. She has a strong interest in the emotional and social lives of animals, and their place in the world. She works in her studio on a 240-acre farm above the Wild Rice River near Twin Valley since 2018. The granary/chicken house studio which was her studio for 23 years was also moved to the new farm property. She is now a farmer and full-time artist. LRAC is honored to have Deborahmae Broad as the LRAC Guest Juror this year.
Broad chose 30 artists living in the LRAC 9 county region. The artists featured in the exhibition are the following; Annette Richter, Barbara Benda, Cameron Peterson, Candy Skauge, Carmen Bruhn, Debbi Anderson, Dennis Krull, Dwight Mickleson, Emma Tomb, Faythe Mills, Gin Templeton, Helena Johnson, Holly Diestler, Jamil Rachid, Jodi Peterson, John Beaudine, John Magnuson, Katy Olson, Kevin Zepper, Laura Youngbird, Les Skoropat, Lyssa Lovejoy, Maggie Peterson, Mary Jo Wentz, Mike Weatherly, Phyllis Joos, Ruth Hanson, Samantha Johnson-Purdie, Tricia Coulson and Vicky Radel.
