The supportive crowd was silent as the crowns for Miss Vergas and Princess Altona were brought onto the stage. The contestants held each other’s hands and waited for a breathless moment as the envelopes were opened. Kaylee Baumgart was crowned Miss Vergas and Meghan Reed was named Princess Altona on the eve of Thursday, Aug. 8.
Plans for a nine-hole frisbee golf course at Lions Park in Frazee have been drawn up and are in the review stage. The sport, often referred to as frolf, utilizes frisbees, which are thrown from a tee box toward a basket. The tee box is often made of cement or gravel, and has a sign that states how many throws it should take to get the frisbee in the basket, as well as the distance and hole number.

Despite “Road Closed” signs on many Frazee city streets, locals will still be able to park and drive with care on those streets until contractors erect concrete barriers during the digging phase. Last Thursday work began to mill about 28 streets in Frazee. Once the blacktop is removed from the streets, the digging can begin. During a special construction meeting last Friday in the fire hall, John Mark of Delzer Construction answered questions and outlined project plans.
Tickets for blight may be issued with more frequency in the future. That was a the final word on a discussion at Monday’s Frazee City Council meeting about the new administrative penalty which allows $100 tickets to be issued for blight under Nuisance Ordinance 111. Ken Moses, of East Main Avenue, said he felt he was being singled out when he was the only person in the city, so far, to be ticketed for the number of vehicles he has on his property.

The Frazee-Vergas Public Schools will open for the coming school year on Tuesday, Sept. 3, the day following Labor Day, with classes to begin at 8:30 a.m. School authorities currently anticipate a slight decrease in the elementary enrollment but are expecting the largest high school enrollment int he history of the school.
The Becker County Board of Commissioners last Wednesday granted cost of living salary increases to county employees and elected and appointed officials. Employees received a 4.1 per cent increase on the first $8,000 salary, effective Aug. 1. Welfare Department employees received the same increase last month with raises effective on July 1.
