The Detroit Lakes Public Library invites community members to discuss great books and connect with fellow readers during meetings of the library’s two Book Clubs. 

For those unavailable during the daytime, the library hosts the After Hours Book Club, which meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at Buck Mills Brewing. The group will meet on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. to discuss You’re Invited by Amanda Jayatissa. The novel takes place during a Sri Lankan wedding with a missing bride and wedding guests hiding secrets of their own.

The library’s daytime book club is called the Tuesday Afternoon Book Club and meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. at the Detroit Lakes Public Library. The group will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. to discuss What We Hunger For: Refugee and Immigrant Stories about Food and Family by Sun Yung Shin. 

Selected in honor of Welcoming Week, this book contains fourteen stories about food written by refugees and immigrants who moved to Minnesota. Welcoming Week is an opportunity to celebrate the values that unite us as neighbors, parents, and colleagues, and to make our communities more welcoming to all those who call Minnesota home.
