A rural Frazee man was found dead after a single-car crash near Little Toad Lake in Height of Land Township on Monday, Sept. 9, according to a Becker County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle crash on County Highway 56, west of 400th Avenue where they found a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Mathew John Mess, 74, in the south ditch.

Mess had been westbound on the highway when it left the roadway, entered the south ditch, then rolled and struck a power pole.

Mess was found inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. 

The crash remains under investigation.

The Becker County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Detroit Lakes and Frazee fire departments, Frazee Rescue, Essentia-St. Mary’s EMS and Wild Rice Power Company.
