Frazee takes second in silver division at Hawley Tournament

0Hornets improve to 4-5 overall with a busy week on the court

The Frazee Hornets took second place in the silver division on Saturday in the 12-team Hawley Nugget Tournament. The Hornets came away with wins over Perham and Hancock and fell to Thief River Falls, East Grand Forks and Badger/Greenbush-Middle River in a busy day on the court.
The second place finish in the silver division came on the heels of a dominating 3-0 win over Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Thursday.
In all, the Hornets are currently 4-5 on the season and 1-0 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference. The team traveled to Rothsay on Monday night, before hosting Park Rapids Area on Tuesday.
On Thursday the Hornets will travel to Hawley for another HOL Conference game, before returning home on Monday, Sept. 23 to take on the Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds in a non-conference game.
Sept. 5
Frazee opened its Heart O’ Lakes Conference season with a 3-0 win over Pelican Rapids on Thursday, Sept. 5. The Hornets opened the match with a 25-15 win in the first game, before defeating the Vikings 25-19, 25-15 to complete the three game sweep.
Frazee was led by a pair of freshmen at the net with Ruby Eckert leading the way with 10 kills, while Aynslee Johannsen finished with eight kills of her own. Eckert also led the team with 13 digs, while Katie Courneya and Hailee Olson finished with 12 digs apiece. Olson also led the team with 29 assists, while Johannsen led the team with three blocks. Eckert and Jayden Sonnenberg finished with three and two aces apiece to lead the way.

Thursday
The Frazee Hornets improved to 2-2 overall with a dominating 3-0 win over Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Thursday night. The Hornets took the first game by a score of 25-12, before coming away with identical 25-11 wins in the second and third games.
As a team the Hornets collected 27 kills and were led by a balanced scoring
attack featuring Aynslee Johannsen with a team-high seven kills and Hailee Olson chipping in with six kills of her own. Olson also led the team with 16 assists, while Sophia Strand led the way with five of Frazee’s ace serves on the night.
Analise Olson led the team with 11 digs, while Olson finished with nine digs in the win.

Frazee went 2-3 overall and finished in second place in the silver division at the 12-team Hawley Tournament. The Hornets opened the day with a pair of tough losses to Thief River Falls (22-25, 23-25) and East Grand Forks (26-24, 15-25, 6-15) by scores of 2-0 and 2-1, before bouncing back with a pair of 2-0 wins against Hancock (25-15, 25-13) and Perham (26-24, 25-18) to advance to the silver division championship game.
Unfortunately, the Hornets were unable to get by Badger/Greenbush-Middle River as they fell by a score of 2-0 (18-25, 18-25) to take second in the silver division.
