After a pair of tough losses at home to open the season, the Frazee Hornets hit the road and picked up a big 41-16 win over Crookston on Thursday night.

The Hornets opened the game on Thursday with a four play drive that resulted in a four-yard touchdown run by Tanner Moe. The Hornets then forced a three and out for Crookston, before Dawson Lyman put the Hornets up 13-0 with a 22-yard touchdown run on the subsequent drive.

The Hornets opened the second quarter on the three-yard-line before quarterback Adam Vigen was able to sneak the ball into the end zone to give the Hornets a 20-0 lead.

Frazee forced its third straight three and out against the Pirates on the subsequent drive, before Vigen got the passing game going by connecting with Carter Sonnenberg on a 35-yard pass and eventually finding Asher Blaine on a 33-yard touchdown pass to give Frazee a 28-0 lead. Prior to the halftime break, Cade Nagel broke loose for a 32-yard touchdown run to make the score 35-0 heading into halftime.

The Hornets jumped out to a 41-0 lead when Blaine picked up a Crookston fumble on the opening drive of the half and returned it to the end zone on a 66-yard fumble recovery touchdown.

Crookston added a pair of touchdowns late, one in the third quarter and another as time was winding down in the fourth quarter to eventually make the score 41-14 in favor of the Hornets.

As a team the Hornets outgained the Pirates by a 402 to 245 yard margin, including a commanding 325 yard to 194 yard advantage on the ground. The Hornets were led by Cade Nagel who rushed nine times for 131 yards, while Tanner Moe added nine rushes for 42 yards. Dawson Lyman rushed five times for 53 yards, Mason Mickelson rushed five times for 51 yards and Adam Vigen added five rushes for 42 yards.

The Hornets will return to Frazee for an extended home stand beginning this week when they host Warroad. The game is the first of three straight games in Frazee as they will host Pelican Rapids on Sept. 27 and Roseau on Oct. 4.
