At its Tuesday, Sept. 10, regular monthly meeting the Wolf Lake City Council agreed to keep its annual property tax levy the same as last year with no increases.
The Wolf Lake 2024 preliminary property tax levy, as it was for the final 2023 property tax levy, is $25,263. That’s a 3.1 percent increase over the final 2022 levy, but no additional increase from the 2023 levy.
The levy breakdown includes $15,000 for the general fund, $4,500 for the road fund, $4,250 for the dumpster fund and $1,513 for the fire fund.

The council took no further action concerning the struggling municipal liquor store. The panel unanimously passed a motion during its Tuesday, Aug. 13, regular monthly meeting signaling the city’s intent to sell the municipal liquor store and move forward with an appraisal.
The council had looked into the possibility of selling the liquor store in November of 2022, but sales began improving so officials stopped pursuing the possibility of selling it at that time. The store is again struggling to post a net profit and the most recent manager has resigned. Officials agree a private owner would likely be able to put more into, and get more out of, the store.
Officials have no solid numbers as to an appraised value of the store, hence the decision within the motion to have it appraised.
Regular monthly meetings of the Wolf Lake City Council are usually held at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at city hall.
