Frazee High School announced the Homecoming candidates at a pep fest on Friday, Sept. 27. Candidates are Lori Glander, Madisen Splonskowski, Emily Bachmann, Lacie Lamb, Kyle Buck, Wesley Kropuenske, Carson Alger and Jaden Guhlke.
Trees are in the process of being cleared for the retaining wall to be built on the shores of Acorn Lake. The retaining wall is part of the Heartland Trail expansion project. Carl Bolander & Sons construction company, out of St. Paul, was awarded the $2.85 million contract.
An art mural may be created in downtown Frazee at 305 West Main Avenue. The Frazee Economic Development Authority (EDA) was informed of the plan by EDA member Karen Pifher.

It’s slower, but it hasn’t stopped. That’s what some merchants are saying about activity in their places of business while the current West Main Avenue street work is being done. Others say the extra business resulting from increased traffic in Frazee due to the Highway 34 detour offsets any loss form the local street renovation. And one businessman says both the local street reconstruction and the detour have helped his store.
Instead of dancing polkas, waltzes and schottisches, Frazee festival-goers will be rocking and rolling in October. Instead of celebrating Oktoberfest, Frazee will be celebrating RocktoberFest Saturday. Instead of being in downtown Frazee, the event will take place in or near the Daggett Truck Line west building on Old Highway 10.

Clarence Hedlund of rural Frazee, who farms in Evergreen Township, has been named the “1974 Conservation Farmer of the Year” by the Becker Soil and Water Conservation District. Born at Aitken, Minn., Hedlund moved to Lake Park at the age of nine, and bought his farm in Evergreen in 1958. He began his solid and water conservation program in 1961 under Wayne Ruona, a former county conservation supervisor, implementing crop rotations, water control land clearing and drainage structures.
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Evergreen will be having a special mission service on Sunday, Oct. 6. Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m. and the worship service will be at 10 a.m. Ladies of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will be assisting with the worship service. Following there service, a colored film, “From Mojave Sands to the African Bush” will be shown. The film shows missionary life in Africa as a young couple works to translate the Bible into the language of an African tribe.
