Building a Stronger Community: Addressing Key Concerns

Becker County has revised the Comprehensive Land Use Plan based on public input and is once again inviting the public to review it. This follows an initial public review period that ran from August 5 to September 9, during which the county received 60 comments via an online form, email submissions, and testimony at a public hearing held by the Planning Commission on August 28.

The comments that were raised addressed:

• Concerns about residential development near lakes, particularly in townships south and west of Detroit Lakes,

• Issues with feedlots and forest area development.

• Concerns focused on water quality, wake boat impacts on shorelines

• Suggestions for clarifications in the plan.

In response to these comments, Becker County has made revisions to the Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The public is encouraged to participate in a second review period and provide additional feedback. The County will hold a special meeting on October 8, at 8:30 a.m. at the Becker County Courthouse to hear public comments.

Next Steps

The Becker County Board is expected to approve the final Comprehensive Land Use Plan at its regularly scheduled meeting on October 15.

Following the plan’s approval, the county will be updating the zoning code to reflect the changes made and implement the comprehensive plan. This process will also include public review and input later this year.
